M KINDERGARTEN (Mrvica) SUPETAR, THE ISLAND OF BRAČ, CROATIA
The reconstruction of this kindergarten was planned in two phases. In the first phase, the existing building will be renewed by installing a thermal protection and the new external joinery, as well as the complete HAVOC system, will be modernized. In the second phase, an annex will be made to accommodate the expanded nursery and kindergarten capacities. This annex is designed to fit into a part of town that has been enlisted as a cultural heritage, but with a modern interpretation, appropriate for children. The focus has been on children as the end users of this facility. The concept of reconstruction has been developed around the principles of green construction, where not only energy efficiency is significant, but also the use of renewable energy sources, and possibility of using rainwater for the purposes of water consumption reduction.
This project combines both cultural heritage and environmental protection, so the construction is not perceived only as meeting the current needs, but to remain as a lasting value which will be legacy for our children.
